We’re not saying you’re getting old…
But if you remember most of these, you might want to sit down before reading any further. 😂
🥛 The milkman coming EVERY DAY — and the sound of glass bottles clinking outside before breakfast.
🐦 Blue tits pecking through the foil tops to pinch the cream before you got to it.
Reflecting on the good old days brings back so many fond memories.
Remembering the good old days of doorstep deliveries brings back such fond memories.
❄️ Frozen milk bottles with a column of frozen cream pushing the foil top several inches into the air.
⚡ Electric milk floats silently crawling around the streets at 4am… and then appearing directly in front of you whenever you were late for work.
💷 Leaving money on the doorstep for the milkman.
Actual money.
Outside.
All night. 😳😂
📺 Having three television channels — and somehow still finding something to watch.
📺 Getting up and walking across the room to change the channel.
Young people may need a moment to process that one.
☎️ A telephone with a rotary dial… usually in the hallway where the entire family could listen to your conversation.
📞 Knowing people’s phone numbers off by heart instead of having 600 contacts and remembering approximately three of them.
🍬 Going to the sweet shop with 10p and coming out with a bag of sweets rather than an apologetic look from the shopkeeper.
🥤 The Corona pop man delivering bottles to the house — and getting money back for returning the empties.
🍞 The bread van coming around the streets.
📰 Newspapers pushed through the letterbox every morning.
📼 Recording the Top 40 onto a cassette… and desperately trying to press STOP before the DJ started talking.
📺 Waiting an entire WEEK for the next episode of your favourite programme.
🚗 Cars you could actually repair yourself with a spanner, a screwdriver and somebody’s dad who “knew a bit about engines.”
🗺️ Driving somewhere new using an A–Z road map while somebody in the passenger seat insisted:
“I told you it was the last turning!” 😂
And perhaps the biggest difference of all…
There was no internet, no mobile phones, no social media and no Amazon Prime.
Yet somehow…
we survived. 😂
And here we are in 2026 discovering that one of the best ideas from those days was actually pretty simple:
🥛 Get the milkman to bring it to the doorstep.
At Doorstep Deliveries, we might have newer vans and a website nowadays…
But we’re still keeping that wonderful tradition of doorstep delivery alive. ❤️
