We’ve all seen it. A company puts its prices up, gives you a little less, then hopes nobody notices. The packet looks much the same, but somehow the biscuits have shrunk and there’s more fresh air inside than chocolate.
You can get away with that sort of thing for a while. But sooner or later, greed comes back to bite you on the foot. Usually just as you’re trying to put that foot through a customer’s door. In the end, it’s the consequences of greed that often lead to downfall. The lesson here is clear: don’t let greed dictate your actions.
The Consequences of Greed
It isn’t always about money, either. Sometimes people forget about loyalty. They forget who helped them when things were difficult, who gave them a chance, or who stood by them when they needed it. Instead, they focus on what will make them happy right now, without much thought for the people who helped them get there.
We all have to make our own decisions in life. But a little gratitude goes a long way, and loyalty means more when it’s remembered after the difficult times have passed.
At Doorstep Deliveries, we know customers have choices. You can pick up milk while doing the big shop or order groceries on your phone without leaving the sofa. So if you choose to have us call at your doorstep, we reckon we ought to earn that choice, week after week.
That means turning up when we say we will, bringing the products you ordered and answering the phone when something goes wrong. It means listening if your needs change, whether you want an extra pint for visiting family or need to pause deliveries while you’re away. It also means remembering that the person behind an account number is a neighbour, not simply another sale.
We’re a business, of course. The vans need fuel, the drivers need paying and, last time we checked, nobody was giving away milk for free. But there’s a difference between earning a fair living and trying to squeeze every last penny out of people.
The old-fashioned milk round worked because it was built on trust. You left your empties out, the milkman collected them, and fresh bottles appeared for breakfast. Nobody needed a complicated explanation of why that was useful. You could see it sitting on the doorstep, usually beside a cat pretending it hadn’t been waiting there all night.
Things have changed since then. We deliver far more than milk now, and many customers manage their orders online. But the principle is much the same: do a good job, charge fairly and treat people as you’d hope to be treated yourself.
We won’t pretend we get everything right every time. If a delivery is missed or a product isn’t as it should be, please tell us. We’d sooner put it right than lose the trust it took time to earn.
Because when people put greed or their own immediate wants ahead of everyone else, others notice. And once trust has gone, winning it back is much harder than looking after it in the first place.
So we’ll keep doing our best to bring you fresh products and a service with a human being behind it. After all, we’d rather be known for leaving milk on your doorstep than for putting our foot in it.
Doorstep Deliveries — fresh to your door, with good old-fashioned service.
